The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is set 200 years after the events of Oblivion in Skyrim. Skyrim is the northern province of Tamriel. Your character is the main character in the game. You determine your appearance and race yourself at the start of the game. You can choose from a wide variety of characters and can also determine your own body measurements, hair, gender and scars. You can choose between Imperial, Khajiit, Orc, Breton, Wood Elf, Dark Elf, High Elf, Imperial, Argonian, Nord and Redwardon characters. Each race starts with a skill bonus.
In the game you are the "Dragonblood". Your mission is to defeat Alduin, an ancient dragon. The prophecy says that he will destroy the world. The more quests you complete in the game, the more your character develops.
Apart from Alduin, there are many other dragons in Skyrim that need to be defeated. These are not as strong as Alduin the World Eater, but provide excellent practice and are used to learn dragon cries. Dragon cries are powerful words in the dragon language known as Thu'um. To learn a cry, dragons must be slain. Your character will then automatically receive a dragon soul and some really heavy bones. Now you only need the words of power, which can be found on word walls, to learn a dragon cry. There are a total of 20 dragon cries and 60 different words of power to learn in the game.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim comes with 18 skills for your character. All of these can be improved in different ways. These include, for example: blacksmithing, lockpicking, oratory, pickpocketing, alchemy and enchanting. Skills can be improved either through training, by using the skill, through textbooks or through enhancements, such as carrying enchanted items.
The beauty of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is that it continues the open-world tradition. You can travel anywhere at any time and don't have to continue the main quest, but can pursue it further if you feel like it.
