All about the new ideas in gaming from Disney

Luigi Priore, content director at Disney Interactive recently said, "There was a time, 10, 15 years ago, when we were like, 'Yeah, let's make a movie-based game. We know what it is.' That's not what we're doing anymore."

In the meantime, the developer and his team have a different focus: they're all about meeting fans' desire to create new stories in already familiar Disney worlds. In the past, this was already implemented by the open world game Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. There you experience a new story in the already known Avatar world, which was created in cooperation with James Cameron's production company. In addition, Sea of Thieves: A Pirate's Life will be released in June 2022, which is an expansion that tells a story with Jack Sparrow that happens in both worlds.

These two games and other developments show that this is not just the start of such projects from Disney, but that we can be excited about what is to come in the future. Disney has considered this strategy because they believe that the games medium currently demands to experience new stories instead of retelling old stories. It is important to the developers that they are not just working for the money, but also have a personal passion for the games they want to create.

It is also important that Disney bosses become open to new ideas. In addition to their own ideas, it is necessary that they get involved with the individual ideas of the developers. Sean Shoptaw, Global Senior at Disney emphasizes this as follows: "And I would just add to Luigi's point, we're not going to be one-size-fits-all, and say that this is now definitely where we're going. I think it is about being open. It is about pushing what we can do creatively, what we can do to push the boundaries while still respecting the stories, characters, and IP (...)."

So we can be curious what else Disney will come up with in the future in the field of gaming.
