Dragonhold: Dragon riding meets base building
Nov 11, 2025
With Dragonhold, the indie studio Exis Games has released its ambitious fantasy project in Early Access on Steam.
The game combines open-world exploration, action-packed battles and the reconstruction of a destroyed dragon rider citadel - either solo or together with friends in co-op.
A destroyed world, a new beginning
Chaos reigns in the floating world of Azarkeen. After the fall of the mighty Dragon Order, the land lies in ruins. As a survivor, you set out to rebuild the legendary fortress of Dragonhold. At your side are mighty dragons, which are not only a means of transportation, but also battle companions. Whether in the air or on the ground - every encounter requires tactics, timing and the courage to face the shadows of the past.
Action, construction and adventure
Dragonhold combines several game systems into a unified experience:
-
Dragon Riding & Aerial Combat: Fly over ruined realms, lead aerial attacks and use your dragon as an ally in battle.
-
Base building & progress: Build workshops, walls and research facilities to expand your fortress.
-
Exploration & Loot: Find resources, relics and materials in ruins, dungeons and ancient temples.
-
Co-op & PvE action: In multiplayer mode, players can build bases together or compete in dragon battles.
The gameplay is reminiscent of a mixture of Valheim, Ark: Survival Evolved and Dragon's Dogma - with its own focus on vertical movement and teamwork.
Dragon riding in multiplayer
One of the most exciting aspects of Dragonhold is the optional co-op mode. Players can tame dragons, build bases and start expeditions together. This is particularly interesting for server players: Dragonhold offers stable multiplayer instances that are perfect for private servers - ideal for groups, clans or guilds that want to build their own dragon fortress.
Early Access - a look into the future
At launch, Dragonhold already offers several biomes, dragon types and equipment levels. According to developer Exis Games, Early Access will last around a year. Planned features include:
-
new areas and boss battles
-
deeper dragon breeding mechanics
-
an expanded town system
-
and performance optimizations for larger server worlds.
Conclusion
Dragonhold is an ambitious project that combines classic fantasy with modern open-world mechanics. The Early Access launch lays a solid foundation - and anyone who loves dragons will find a fresh mix of combat, construction and exploration here. Whether alone or with friends: The potential is huge - and with every update, the realm of Azarkeen is likely to open up further.
