Hytale is celebrating its comeback - the original development team has bought back the rights and is now announcing an Early Access release for early January.
The comeback: Hytale belongs to the original team again
For years, Hytale was considered one of the most anticipated sandbox RPGs. But since it was bought by Riot Games, development stagnated, updates became rare and the community increasingly lost confidence. Now there's a big surprise: the original studio has bought Hytale back completely.
The project is now back in the hands of the developers who once made the game great - and the vision that has been with many fans since 2018 is finally set to become a reality.
Early Access is coming in January - what does that mean?
The newly announced Early Access is set to start at the beginning of January. This is the first concrete release date in years. The aim is to put Hytale in the hands of the community at an early stage in order to further develop gameplay features, technology and performance together.
The following content will already be included in Early Access:
-
Open sandbox world
-
Adventure mode with biomes, dungeons and bosses
-
Building mechanics similar to Minecraft, but significantly expanded
-
Creative tools for modders and server owners
-
First form of multiplayer support
Many features are still to come - the focus is on "playability, stability and creative potential".
What changes will the relaunch bring?
With the takeover, the development team is saying goodbye to some previous plans that were influenced by Riot, including
-
No massive MMO focus
-
No e-sports or competitive game format
-
Less technical experiments, more classic sandbox mechanics
Instead, we are now returning to the original vision. A creative, modding-friendly sandbox RPG full of adventure, tools and freedom.
Why this move might be the best decision
Many fans see the buyback as a turning point for Hytale. For years, the game was caught between ambitious plans and external influences. Now the developers are free to make decisions again - and the community is finally a central part of the development process again.
This new start brings:
-
Transparency: regular updates have been announced
-
Community feedback as a guideline
-
Smaller but realistic steps instead of major projects
This means there is a good chance that Hytale will finally become the game it was always intended to be.
What does this mean for servers, modding and creators?
Hytale was originally announced with extensive tools:
-
custom script editor
-
server framework
-
Asset tools
-
Modding API
The developers confirmed that these tools are still part of the project - and that Early Access is the first step towards testing and developing them further. Hytale could become an important long-term title for server hosters and creators in particular - similar to Minecraft, but technically more modern, flexible and modular.
Conclusion Hytale is experiencing a real reboot
After years of uncertainty, Hytale is starting into the future with new momentum. The original studio is back in control and is launching the game into Early Access at the beginning of January. For fans, this means no more empty promises - but real gameplay, real progress and community-driven development.
Now it's time to wait for Early Access to start - and hope that Hytale will finally become what millions of players have wanted for years.
