Character creation - classes, factions, abilities
In Dune: Awakening, every adventure on Arrakis begins with detailed character creation. Players not only decide on the appearance of their character, but also on their origin, faction affiliation and specialization. These decisions influence gameplay, social interactions and access to certain abilities.
Appearance & Customization
Character creation offers a variety of options for visual design:
- Gender, skin color, facial structure, hairstyles
- scars, tattoos, cybernetic elements (depending on technological progress)
- Choice of clothing at the start
Note: The appearance can be purely cosmetic, but has an influence on the immersion in the world of Dune: Awakening.
Factions (Origin)
Players can join a faction or lineage at the start, which defines the character's social standing and political environment:
Faction | Description |
---|---|
House Atreides | Idealistic, honorable, with strong cohesion. Focus on diplomacy. |
House Harkonnen | Brutal, efficient, technologically superior. Focuses on power and control. |
Fremen | Native inhabitants of Arrakis, tough, adapted to desert life. |
CHOAM | Economically motivated, control parts of the Spice trade. |
Bene Gesserit | Secretive, manipulative. Access to special mental abilities. |
The choice of faction determines starting equipment, relationships with NPCs and possibly available quests and skills.
Classes & Specializations
Dune: Awakening does away with rigid classes and instead relies on a flexible system of specializations. Players develop their character over the course of the game by choosing skills, equipment and lifestyle.
Possible specializations:
- Fighter (melee combat, shield tactics)
- Saboteur (stealth, assassination)
- Technician (vehicles, drones, base building)
- Medic (healing, buffs)
- Trader (resource management)
- Analyst (scans, strategic abilities)
Skills & talent system
Players gain experience and unlock new skills - possibly via talent trees or modules.
Possible skills:
- Combat skills: Shield boost, special attacks
- Survival: Water search, protection from sandstorms
- Social: Persuade, Intimidate
- Technology: Crafting bonuses, scanning functions
Attention: Skills and talents can complement each other, creating synergies.
