Axolotl in Minecraft

Axolotls are passive aquatic creatures from Lush Caves that help you fight underwater mobs. They can be caught with a bucket and bred with tropical fish - with a bit of luck, a rare blue axolotl will emerge.

Properties

  • Life - 14 (7 hearts)

  • Behavior - Usually swim in groups, attack aquatic enemies

  • Colors - Pink (Leucistic), gold, brown, cyan and blue (very rare, 1:1200 chance)

Locations

  • Only in Lush Caves under Y-Level 63

  • Require water blocks with light level 0

  • Can be caught with a water bucket ("Axolotl in a bucket")

Taming & keeping

  • Axolotls cannot be tamed in the classic way

  • After being picked up with a bucket, they do not automatically follow the player, but they will attack enemies if released

  • Can only survive outside the water for a short time (max. 5 minutes)

Combat behavior

  • Automatically attack drow, guardians and elder guardians

  • Play dead when seriously injured - regenerate life in the process

  • Support the player in battle: If the player fights with an axolotl, they receive regeneration and the debuff "Mining Fatigue" is removed

Breeding

  • Food - Tropical fish in a bucket (not as an item)

  • Two axolotls produce one baby axolotl

  • the color is inherited from the parents - the blue variant is only created by chance (very rare)

Tips

  • Always carry a bucket of water with you to catch axolotls

  • Use them in combat areas to get support against water mobs

  • Keep them in aquariums or ponds with sufficient water and light protection

Trivia

  • Axolotls are real animals from Mexico and are threatened with extinction

  • They regenerate lost health in Minecraft just like in real life

  • The blue axolotl was added as a special, artificially rare variant
