Beds in Minecraft
Beds are central game objects in Minecraft: they set the spawn point, skip the night and control the behavior of villagers. They explode in the Nether when used.
Production
A bed can be made in Minecraft with the following materials:
-
3x wool (all colors possible)
-
3x wooden planks
Crafting: Place the 3x wool in the top row and the 3x wooden boards in the middle row of the crafting table
Function for players
Sleeping:
-
Only possible at night or during a thunderstorm
-
Skips the night and resets the spawn point
Respawn point:
-
After sleeping, the player returns to this bed upon death
-
If the bed is destroyed or blocked, a warning appears
Function for villagers
-
Every villager needs a bed to sleep in
-
At least one additional (free) bed must be available for reproduction
-
Villagers base their daily rhythms on their beds
Colors & decoration
-
There are 16 color variations
-
Bed color can be changed by using dyed wool or afterwards with paint (not directly in the vanilla game, but e.g. with mods)
-
Popular for bedrooms, inns or role-playing buildings
Tips
-
Place your bed in a safe place with lighting
-
Avoid sleeping in the Nether or End - beds explode there!
-
Use multiple beds in villages to increase the population
Trivia
-
If an attempt is made to sleep in a bed in the Nether or End, it explodes and causes great damage
-
With a bed, a player's respawn point can be changed independently of the world spawn
-
Beds are also used in speedruns to defeat the Ender Dragon with the explosion in the Nether
