Cats are shy but useful animals in Minecraft - they keep creepers and phantoms away, can be tamed with fish and come in many varieties.

Properties

  • Life - 10 (5 hearts)

  • Behavior - Flee from players (if wild), sneak through narrow areas

  • Advantages - Keep creepers and phantoms at a distance

Taming

  • Food - Raw cod or raw salmon

  • Creep up slowly, have fish ready

  • Right-click with a fish until heart particles appear - cat is tamed

  • Tamed cats wear a collar (can be colored with dye)

Variants

There are 11 different cat designs, e.g.:

  • Black cat (witch's hut)

  • Red tabby

  • Siamese cat

  • White cats with different colored eyes

  • Each variant can arise by chance during taming or through breeding

Breeding

  • Food - Raw cod or salmon

  • Two tamed cats produce one kitten

  • the offspring take on the appearance of one of the parents

Benefit

  • Protection - creepers and phantoms avoid the vicinity of tamed cats

  • Decorative - Cats often sit on beds, chests or stoves

  • Atmosphere - meowing, purring and sleeping at the foot of the bed

Tips

  • Always take fish with you when exploring a village

  • Place cats in your base to keep creepers away

  • Sleep in bed with a cat - sometimes it will bring you a gift (e.g. thread, feathers)

  • Tamed cats teleport to the player, similar to wolves

  • Cats like to sleep - often directly on your bed or chest

  • Cats that sit on chests or stoves block their use
