Foxes in Minecraft

Foxes are shy, nocturnal animals that live in taiga biomes and produce tame offspring through breeding. They can carry items, attack enemies and offer many creative possibilities in animal husbandry.

Properties

  • Lives - 20 (10 hearts)

  • Behavior - Mostly nocturnal, sleep during the day

  • Speed - Fast, flee from players

  • Items in mouth - Foxes often carry random items

Benefit

  • Foxes can pick up prey automatically (e.g. eggs, feathers, berries)

  • They attack chickens, fish, rabbits and even certain monsters such as silverfish on their own initiative

  • Baby foxes created by breeding trust the player (do not run away)

Breeding

  • Food- Sweetberries or glowberries

  • Two fed foxes produce one baby fox

  • The cub trusts the player, but runs after other foxes

Taming

  • You cannot tame foxes directly

  • Baby foxes that come from a breeding program do not flee from players

  • Use a leash or boat to isolate and raise baby foxes

Tips

  • Use lines to catch foxes or take babies with you

  • Build a darkened shelter - foxes feel more comfortable at night

  • Put an item in the fox's mouth with a drop, e.g. totem of immortality

Trivia

  • Foxes prefer to sleep under trees

  • Foxes can carry enchanted swords, totems or tools in their mouths and even use effects (e.g. Sharp Sword)

  • If a fox takes damage, it drops the item and flees
