Pigs are passive animals in Minecraft that provide meat, can be ridden and can be bred with carrots. They are ideal for simple farms and early food supply.

Properties

  • Color- Pink

  • Life- 10 life points (5 hearts)

  • Spawn- Naturally on grass blocks at light level 9 or higher

  • Sounds- Grunts and squeaks

Benefit

  • Meat source - When killed, pigs drop raw pork, which is a good source of food when cooked.

  • Rideable animal - Equipped with a saddle, pigs can be ridden. They are steered with a carrot rod.

  • Breeding - Pigs are fed carrots, potatoes or turnips in order to reproduce.

  • XP source - Pigs give experience points when bred and killed.

Breeding

  • Feed two pigs with carrots, potatoes or turnips.

  • After a short time, a piglet appears.

  • The young piglet grows into an adult pig in approx. 20 minutes (can be accelerated by feeding more food).

Tips

  • Easy farm animal - Ideal for beginners, as carrots are easy to obtain and pigs are uncomplicated to keep.

  • Saddle search - Saddles can be found in dungeons, Nether fortresses or bastions.

  • Prepare carrot rod - A rod with carrot is required for riding (Crafting: rod + carrot).

Trivia

  • Rideable pigs were one of the few means of transportation before the introduction of the horse.

  • A lightning strike turns a pig into a zombie piglin (in older versions: zombie pigman).
