Production

An anvil can be made in Minecraft with the following materials:

  • 3x iron blocks - Each made from 9 iron ingots.
  • 4x iron ingots - Obtained directly from iron ore or by smelting.

Recipe: Place the three iron blocks in the top row of a 3x3 crafting table, add a single iron ingot underneath and place the remaining three iron ingots in the bottom row. This will give you an anvil.

Usage

The anvil is one of the most important tools in Minecraft and has several functions:

  • repairing tools & armor: Two identical items can be combined to increase durability.

  • Apply Enchanted Books: Enchantments can be transferred from Books to equipment.

  • Rename items: Tools, weapons and armor can be renamed.

  • Combine Enchantments: Two identical enchantments (e.g. Sharpness III + Sharpness III) result in a higher level (Sharpness IV).

Durability & Wear

An anvil wears out over time and can break after several uses. The service life depends on the number of repairs and combinations that are carried out.

Tips

  • Effective repair: Use materials such as diamonds or Netherite ingots to repair valuable tools efficiently.

  • Minimize XP costs: Combine enchantments strategically to avoid high experience level costs.

  • Place anvil in the base: A fixed position saves time and makes enchanting and repairing easier.
