Bees in Minecraft

Bees pollinate plants, produce honey and live in bee nests or beehives. They can be bred with flowers - for yields, decoration and effective farming.

Properties

  • Life - 10 (5 hearts)

  • Behavior - Active during the day, return to their nest at night and when it rains

  • Attack - Only when provoked - sting once and die afterwards

Spawn & Habitat

  • Spawn near bee nests growing on trees in flower biomes

  • Bee nests appear with a probability of approx. 5% on generated trees with flowers nearby

Behavior

  • Flying from flower to flower for pollination

  • Return regularly to the nest to store nectar

  • Pollinate plants - increase the growth of surrounding crops (e.g. wheat, carrots)

Breeding

  • Forage - Flowers (e.g. poppies, daisies)

  • Two fed bees produce one baby bee

  • Baby bees grow in approx. 20 minutes (faster with more flowers)

Nests & hives

  • Bee nest - naturally generated home for bees

  • Beehive - Craftable by the player from 6 wooden boards + 3 honeycombs

  • Both store up to 3 bees and fill with honey when pollinated

Honey harvest

  • With glass bottle - honey bottle (food, healing, potion ingredient)

  • With scissors - honeycomb (for beehives, candles, honeycomb blocks)

  • Important - Use campfire under the nest/hive to avoid aggressive reaction

Tips

  • Place hives next to fields for better harvest

  • Use campfires to harvest honey safely

  • Keep flowers nearby to keep bees active and breeding

Trivia

  • Bees can see to fly through glass and find their way to the nest even through glass blocks

  • Honeycombs are used for decorative and technical blocks (e.g. honeycomb block, honey block)

  • Honey removes the potion effect "poisoning" when drinking
