Iron farm in Minecraft
Iron farms automatically generate iron through the controlled spawning and killing of iron golems. With villagers, a zombie and a golem trap, valuable resources can be farmed permanently.
Functionality
Villagers create an iron golem when they:
-
have access to a bed and a working block
-
Have completed a working day
-
Experience a scare from a nearby zombie
-
The Iron Golem spawns in a defined area near the villagers
-
It is guided into a death zone (e.g. magma blocks or lava) in a controlled manner
-
A funnel system collects the drops: iron ingots and occasionally poppies
Building a simple iron farm
Required components:
-
3 villagers
-
1 zombie (in a safe position visible to the villagers)
-
3 beds
-
3 work blocks (e.g. composter)
-
Golem killing chamber (magma blocks or lava with funnels underneath)
-
Solid platform for golem spawn (at least 5×5 blocks)
Steps:
-
Build a safe enclosure for villagers with a view of the zombie
-
Position beds and work blocks correctly
-
Make sure villagers can work daily
-
Guide golems to the death zone using water streams or chutes
-
Collect items via funnels into a crate
Increase efficiency
-
Scaling - Place several modules next to each other or on top of each other
-
Keep spawn platform regularly clear of cats (prevent golem spawn)
-
Use name tags or boats to permanently secure zombie
-
Simulate day-night rhythm with daylight sensor or automatic harvest farm
Tips
-
Position the farm high above the ground to avoid spawns outside
-
Test the spawn area with temporary blocks before activating the trap
-
Make sure that golems cannot appear outside the trap
Trivia
-
A working iron farm yields 30-75 iron bars per hour, depending on the design
-
Poppies are also collected by killing golems
-
Iron farms are among the most popular automation projects in Minecraft
